<div class="section1"><div class="Normal"><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">LUDHIANA: The body of Surinder (22), a vegetable vendor, killed along with two others by a Punjab police cop, was cremated here amidst tight security.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">An innocent victim in Sunday''s shootout incident at Basti Jodhewal area, his cremation was delayed awaiting arrival of his family from his native village in Gorakhpur district in Uttar Pradesh.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">His brother Kedar told TNN that the deceased was married and had two minor children.

Both used to sell vegetables in the area. A heavy deployment of police force was made in the area till cremation passed off peacefully. The police apprehended public flareout like traffic blockade on GT Road by the area residents on Monday when other two deceased brothers Beant Singh and Bhagwant Singh were cremated. Instructions were made to divert traffic in case of dharna on the road.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">More than 200 residents waited for the body brought under security after post-mortem at civil hospital. Though attempt to stage dharna on the road was foiled after the police officials assured the victim''s family about financial assistance. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">Kedar expressed satifaction over police assurances. The residents and families of the deceased demanded jobs and financial assitance. A senior officials said that a case recommending monetary compensation and adequate employment would be submitted to the government.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="">Senior officers including SP (D) Gurpreet Singh Toor and SP (H) RK Jaiswal were present at the cremation. Meanwhile, SSP Narinder Pal Singh confirmed that constable Jarnail Singh was the only accused in the case contrary to media reports about involvement of three persons. He also clarified that the accused had not been a police cat as reported in a section of the media.</span></div> </div>
